| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Lone Star |
LONE STAR is a movie written and directed by John Sayles in 1996.
A small town in Texas, near the Mexican frontier. Sheriff Chris Cooper is the son of the legendary sheriff Buddy Deeds who was and made the law during a 30 years period in the town. Hard job in a country where the population consists in a mixture of white (10%) black, mexican and indian people. Now that the town wants to erect a statue, a skeleton is discovered in the country nearby. Chris Cooper who must cope with the shadow of his father hates him because, 20 years ago, he didn't approve his love affair with Elizabeth Peņa, a young mexican girl. So Cooper is persuaded now that the skeleton is Charlie Wade's, the no good sheriff Buddy replaced after Wade disappeared without a trace. Could it be that Buddy killed Charlie Wade and that his legend is rotten from the start?
The best american film of 1996. An allegory of U.S. History.
