THE CRANES ARE FLYING is a russian movie directed in 1957 by Mikhail Kalatozov. Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival.
Moscow, WWII. Veronika and Boris are madly in love as the german army starts invading Russia. Boris volunteers and leaves Veronika. During an air raid, Veronika's parents are killed. Completely shocked, Veronika moves to Boris father's apartment. She's seduced by Mark, the cousin of Boris, and marries him. But she still feels guilty about it and often thinks of Boris who hasn't sent a letter since his departure. Soon, Mark, her husband, is cheating on her.
A classic of russian cinema.
