| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Big |
A 12-year-old gets tired of being a kid and wishes he were big one day. Whwn he wakes up the next day, he becomes Tom Hanks!

Thirteen-year-old Josh, a nice Long Island kid, keenly feels his smallness, and when an odd carnival fortune machine bids him make a wish, he says "I wish I were big." The next morning he wakes up in a 30-year-old body (Hanks), with the same mind and sensibility. His mother is aghast and doesn't believe it's him, but his best friend Billy is convinced and gives him money to hide out in the City for a few days. Josh ends up taking a menial job at a toy company, impressing the boss, getting instantly promoted to VP in charge of Product Development, and catches the eye of hard driving Susan (Perkins) as well as the enmity of her old boyfriend Paul (Heard). Given the initial premise, this 1988 hit is a delightfully plausible and utterly charming film. Hanks does a splendid job, and Perkins is a marvelous "straight man." With this movie, Penny Marshall became the first woman director to gross more than $100 million.
