| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Husbands and Wives |
When Jack and Sally calmly announce they are getting divorced, best friends Gabe and Judy are shocked--but gradually realize they are drifting apart too. Jack (Pollack) takes up with a young aerobics instructor while angry and brittle Sally (Davis, who does incredible acting here) is tempted by a gentle editor named Michael (Neeson). Gabe (Allen), an English professor, is drawn to a 20-year-old student named Rain (Lewis). This is a fiercely funny movie, with some jolting, hand-held camera work and a documentary-like element in which an unseen interviewer chats regularly with the principal characters. Made in 1992, it is one of Allen's very best "serious" films.

HUSBANDS AND WIVES is a movie written and directed by Woody Allen in 1992. Two nominations for the academy awards.
A few months in the life of two couples who are friends. Sydney Pollack and Judy Davis, after 25 years of marriage, decide to separate for a while. Sydney moves in with his much younger aerobics teacher while Judy cannot accept the situation.
Meanwhile, Woody Allen and Mia Farrow observe with philosophy what's happening to their friends. Woody is now attracted by Juliette Lewis, one of his young students and Mia Farrow is falling in love with her colleague Liam Neeson. Which couple will be stronger when the year is over ?
Superb movie of the bluesy Woody Allen period.
