| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Deep End |
THE DEEP END is a movie cowritten by David Siegel and Scott McGehee in 2001. The film won the Cinematography Award at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival.
Lake Tahoe. Tilda Swinton, whose husband is a Navy Officer away from home, lives with her three children and her father-in-law in a house near the lake. She's worried about her 17 years old son Beau who's sexually involved with Josh Lucas a no-good Reno club owner. As Josh is secretly meeting Beau one night, he accidentally kills himself on the shore in front of Tilda's house. Tilda, persuaded that Beau is a murderer, hides the corpse by plunging it into Lake Tahoe. But, on the next day, Goran Visjnic contacts her and informs her that he and his partner Raymond Barry possess a video of Josh Lucas and Beau in bed and will give it to the police unless she pays $50,000 to them. Unfortunately, Tilda's father-in-law has an heart attack the same day and Tilda cannot raise the money. Goran gives her one more day without asking his partner who's not happy at all when he learns it.
