| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Sword in the Stone |
This is the story of how Wart, the skinny ward of Sir Ector, came to be known as King Arthur. Typical of Disney animated movies, there are songs and plenty of goofy kid humor, though Madame Mimm is pretty funny. Merlin the Magician takes it upon himself to educate Wart in preparation of his future role as king and Wart is turned into different animals and has little adventures where he is confronted with dangerous foes like the pike in the moat, Madame Mimm, and, shudder, the love-smitten female quirrel. By the end of the movie, Wart has pulled the sword from the stone, is pronounced king, and is left by Merlin to deal with his new role as best he can, which is a good place to stop, as it would be quite a task for anyone to try to Disney-esque the adultery, treachery and murder that plagues his later life.
