Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Havana
HAVANA, based on a screenplay directly written for the screen, is a movie directed by Sydney Pollack in 1990. Nominated for the Academy Award in the "Best music, original score" category. Last Redford-Pollack collaboration to date.

Cuba, Christmas 1958. Redford, a professional gambler, falls in love with Lena Olin, the wife of Raul Julia, a wealthy Cuban who joined the ranks of Batista's opponents. As Julia is murdered by Batista's secret police, Redford abandons his usual neutrality in order to save Olin from the torture chamber. He will follow her in Cuba's hinterland and understand why people are following Castro and his guerilleros. Olin still hesitates to abandon her ideals and leave Cuba with Redford.

A movie which failed at the box-office but which deserves to be rediscovered if you like romantic adventure movies.
