Raging Bull is about Jake LaMotta's profesional boxing career, homelife and some time after when he became overweight.
Jake LaMotta was a middleweight boxer who fought in through the 40's and 50's. They called him the bronx bull and people described him as a brawler. DeNiro plays him and Joe Pesci play his brother Joey who was his manager.
We see LaMotta's personal life as he has a big problem with anger and often thought his wife, Cathy Moriarty, was cheating on him.
This man's anger drove every away from him and he ends up 50 pounds overweight, which DeNiro did actually gain.

Yes, this is the best film of the 1980's. Not so much of a sports story, it's rather a story about a man's struggle with his own nature. A once-in-a-decade masterpiece.
