| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Big Knife |
Adapted from a Clifford Odets stage play, THE BIG KNIFE is a movie produced and directed by Robert Aldrich in 1955. The picture won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
Jack Palance is tormented. Rod Steiger, the head of the studio he's working for, wants him to sign another 7 years long contract while his wife, Ida Lupino, has been clearly telling him that she would definitively leave him if he signs it. But Steiger, a few years ago, has saved Palance from serving time in prison and is now threatening him to reveal it if the contract is not signed. Lupino, still loving him, hesitates to divorce.
