| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Valmont |
VALMONT is a movie directed by Milos Forman in 1989. The picture earned a nomination for the Academy Awards.
Freely based on Choderlos de Laclos's Dangerous Liaisons, the movie describes the fatal consequences a bet can produce. Annette Bening bets that Colin -Valmont- Firth cannot seduce the recently married Meg Tilly. At first reluctant, Meg falls desperately in love with the seducer. Meanwhile, Annette wants to help the 15 years old Cecile who's just left the convent in order to get married. She encourages her to return Sanceny's advances, hoping Meg will have the time to discover sexual pleasure before her wedding. But the young couple, with the help of romantic letters, lives a platonic and idealistic love affair and Annette must ask Valmont to deflower Cecile. Sanceny becomes aware of that and wants to take revenge on him.
