| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about White |
Karol, a native of Poland, is married to a beautiful French model and is a hairdresser in Paris. His wife Dominique decides to divorce him for "failure to consummate the marriage," and in the process Karol loses his business and all his worldly possessions. Eventually he's a homeless guy on the Paris metro and must make his way back to Poland to put his life back together and plan his revenge on his ex. He's also still obsessed with getting her back. This is the second of Krzysztof Kieslowski's trilogy based on the colors of the French flag (white for equality, which Karol seeks to achieve with Dominique; but white is also associated in this film with joy in marriage, and orgasm, among other things). It's more manic and less believable than "Blue" or "Red" (at one point, a man hides in a suitcase and goes successfully through airport security!), and Delpy doesn't get to do much beyond look gorgeous and behave incomprehensibly.
