| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Zero Effect |
ZERO EFFECT is a movie written and directed by Jake Kasdan in 1998.
Bill Pullman is a kind of modern Sherlock Holmes. As a private investigator, he's able to solve a case by deductions only without leaving his office. He doesn't have any girlfriend, spending his time, between cases, locked in his apartment, and playing (very badly) electric guitar and taking drugs.
Bill accepts the case presented by Ryan O'Neal, a rich businessman who's blackmailed. Very interested by the situation, Bill leaves L.A. in order to investigate in Portland. He soon finds out that Ryan O'Neal is blackmailed by his own daughter Kim Dickens who hates his father for having arranged the murder of her mother. The eccentric Bill will fall in love with Kim and try to help her give up her thoughts of revenge.
