| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Last Metro |
THE LAST METRO is a movie cowritten and directed by François Truffaut in 1979. The picture won ten french Academy Awards.
The setting is the occupied Paris of 1942. Catherine Deneuve, the wife of the well known jewish stage play director Lucas Steiner, has been obliged to be involved in the theatre administration after Steiner's disappearance. She also must assume the main role of the new production of the theatre. Steiner is secretly hidden in the theatre's cellar where he's able to listen to the rehearsals and gives advices to his wife who's visiting him every night. Steiner soon remarks, by listening the actors rehearsing, that Deneuve is falling in love with the other lead character of the play, Gérard Depardieu.
