| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Frida |
This film tells the story of 20th century Mexican artist Frida Khalo, known for her shocking self-portraits.
Frida is an innocent, wild, societal-norm-defying teenager and student enjoying a carefree life in Mexico with her family and boyfriend. Soon however, she has a violent, tragic bus accident that left her forever changed. Nearly killed, she survived. Nearly paralyzed, after months of surgeries and lying immobile in body casts, she walked again. During those many months, she learned to pour her time and her pain into painting.
Over her life she would continue to cast the ever-increasing, eventually crippling pain and injuries from her accident into her paintings. She would also breathe into them her wild, unconventional life, her affairs with men and women including Trotsky, and her tumultuous marriage to also famous artist the passionate but unfaithful Diego Rivera.
