| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Marco |
Inside an absurdly silly musical story of Marco Polo in the court of the Great Khan, is a wonderful performance by Zero Mostel as Kublai Khan, and a thoughtful story about following your dreams, peace, feminism, etc.
Young Marco, son of an Italian businessman in Kublai Khan's court, is a disappointment to his father because he is always dreaming, playing with children, flying in kites, wearing cofortable clothes, etc. He falls in love with a princess but is ordered to marry another, who wants to be a warrior. He goes on a journey to find the mythical roc, but finds other things, and finds that his love has been married off to Turkistan, and the warrior princess marries his uncle. He becomes a hardened business man. Then the Khan brings him to the Great Wall and shows him how big the world truly is.
