| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Raven (1943) |
THE RAVEN is a movie cowritten and directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot in 1943.
The setting is a small town in France. Pierre Fresnay, an eminent surgeon who's decided to settle as a simple anonymous gynecologist after his wife's death, is the target of anonymous letters that accuse him of being the lover of psychiatrist Pierre Larquey's wife and carrying out abortions. Soon, dozens of anonymous letters are sent to almost everybody in town and the police are helpless. Fresnay is seduced by Ginette Leclerc, a crippled woman, but is still attracted by Larquey's wife. As suspicion is the air and everyone suspects everyone to be the Raven, the author of the anonymous letters, Larquey proposes to compare the writing of the Raven's letters with the writing of the suspects.
