| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Frances |
Based on a screenplay directly written for the screen about Frances Farmer's life, FRANCES is a film directed by Graeme Clifford in 1982. The picture earned two nominations for the Academy Awards.
Smart and wild, Frances Farmer became a promising actress at Paramount studios in the late thirties. She hated the life in Hollywood though and soon she was in conflict with her employer. Arrested while driving drunk, her eccentricity and strong character led her to jail. She was finally sent into a mental hospital by her own mother who was unable to accept that Frances was about to leave Hollywood.
