| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about God Is Great, I Am Very Small |
Michele (Tautou), a 20-year-old French model, is pretty devastated by a breakup with her boyfriend. Probably raised Catholic, she's tried Buddhism and other fad belief systems, and then she meets Francois, a veterinarian 12 years her senior from a Jewish background. Michele decides to embrace Judaism in a big way, embarrassing Francois and forcing him to attend Hebrew classes which put him to sleep. Wide-eyed pixie Tautou made this romantic comedy the same year as she hit the big time as the star of "Amelie"; this 2001 film is much more slight and conventional, and a bit slow at times, but it has a lot of sweet laughs, particularly for viewers familiar with Judaism. The French title "Dieu est grand, je suis toute petite" literally translates as "God is Great, I am Very Small."
