| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Light Sleeper |
LIGHT SLEEPER is a movie written and directed by Paul Schrader in 1992. The picture earned a nomination for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
John LeTour is a delivery man for Susan Sarandon who furnishes her Manhattan clientele with drugs. For two years now, John is straight, considering his job with a strange philosophy. For instance, he doesn't mind giving moral advices to his clients. But all of a sudden, his boss wants to get out of the business and create a cosmetics firm and John accidentally crosses the path of Mary Beth Hurt, a young woman with whom he's spent ten years of his life when drug-addicted. Attracted by her, he'll have a unique opportunity to start a new life. This description of the everyday life of a drug dealer should please those who've followed with attention the career of Paul Schrader, the author of another masterpiece : "Taxi Driver".
