Cecilia is a waitress working on a double shift basis while her husband is playing cards all day and night long with friends. Her only spare time is dedicated to the movies where she can find the ideal life she's dreaming about. One night, Tom Baxter, one of the characters of The Purple Rose of Cairo, the last Hollywood production shown at the the local cinema, comes out of the sreen and declares his love to Cecilia.
