| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Long Night |
THE LONG NIGHT is a movie directed by Anatole Litvak in 1947. It's the remake of Marcel Carné's "Le Jour se Lève" with Jean Gabin, shot in 1939.
Joe Adams has just killed Maximilian and has locked himself in. While the police is surrounding the building and is trying to enter the room by force, Joe remembers the events that happened during the last weeks.
He had fallen in love with Jo Ann, an orphan like him, and was planning to marry her when he discovered that she was seeing the magician Maximilian. Maximilian had seduced her and was taking advantage of her, counting on the young girl's innocence. Jo Ann, deceived by Maximilian's fine talking and the little gifts he was offering to her, didn't have the nerve to break this relationship.
Soon, Maximilian tries to take Joe Adams away from Jo Ann.
