Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Barton Fink
BARTON FINK is a movie written, produced and directed by the Coen brothers in 1991. The picture earned the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival and three nominations for the Academy Awards.

Barton Fink is a young play writer who's just had his first critical triumph in Broadway. He accepts a $1000 a week contract in Hollywood as a screenplay writer and checks in at the Earle Hotel. He's assigned to write the screenplay of the new Wallace Beery picture, a genre movie in the wrestling world. But Barton is suffering from the writer's block and is asking for help his literary idol W.P. Mayhew who's also working for the Capitol studios.

The second plot of the movie depicts the relation between Barton Fink and his hotel neighbour John Goodman. Barton and Goodman become good friends, Goodman being for the writer the sole "normal" person he's met in Los Angeles since his arrival. But Goodman is not the person he claims to be, he's in fact a psycho-killer on the loose.
