| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Tender Mercies |
Written by Horton Foote, TENDER MERCIES is a movie directed by Bruce Beresford in 1983. Both Robert Duvall and Horton Foote won an Academy Award for their contribution to the movie.
Mac Sledge, a successful songwriter, was once happily married to Dixie. But Mac's alcoholism destroyed their marriage and Mac had to leave her and his 10 years old daughter Sue Anne. Now, eight years later, Mac met Rosa Lee, a young woman who's running a motel lost in the middle of the Texas's fields, and is planning to marry her. He's stopped drinking, is working hard and is occasionally writing new songs. When a journalist finds at last his retreat and writes an article about him, Mac's past begins to haunt him. He misses his daughter so much that he'll find the courage to go to one of his wife's concerts in order to talk to Sue Anne.
