| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about City Slickers |
Three New Yorkers travel to the Old West to become ranchers there. While there, they spook the cattle with a coffee grinder and other contemporary appliances, shoot guns at the OK Corral and even help a cow give birth to a new calf. Jack Palance stars as the resident rancher.

As his 39th birthday hits, radio ad salesman Mitch Robbins (Crystal) is on the edge of a mid-life crisis. His best buds Phil and Ed (especially Phil, whose wife discovers he's been having an office affair) are not doing so well, either, so they decide to gift him with a two-week vacation/adventure on a cattle drive from New Mexico to Colorado on which they can accompany Mitch. These New Yorkers know nothing about horses, roping, or roughing it, of course, and they get taken into the firm hand of Curly (Palance), an aging but still very hardened trail hand. This hilarious and appealing 1991 comedy isn't too deep, but offers a great way to pass two hours; Palance won a Supporting Actor Oscar, apparently for his ability to exude waves of machismo and menace at the ripe age of 73.
