| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Thunder Road |
"Thunder Road" (1958) is one of the greatest "road" (and "guy") movies ever. Legendary Robert Mitchum plays Luke Doolan, a fearless driver who runs Kentucky moonshine to Appalachian "markets." Fighting both the law ("revenooers") and deadly extortionists, the mountain folk unite to maintain their way of life.
Recently back from Korean War, Doolan developed both an appreciation for his family's unchanging (but illegal)way of life, as well as a recklessness which increases his reputation as the best of the local moonshine "drivers." Because of mob and government threats to his family business, he is very protective of his younger brother (played by his son), and resistant to the women who love him.
