Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Arabian Knight (The Thief and the Cobbler)
Set in the ancient city of Baghdad, the story follows Tack, a humble cobbler, who accidentally earns the enmity of evil sorcerer Zig-zag (voice of Vincent Price). Princess Yum-Yum (voice of Jennifer Beals) intercedes on his behalf. Zig-zag then turns to warlord One-Eye to topple King Nod, and Tack suddenly finds himself defending Baghdad.
The Cobbler wins the hand of his beloved princess after saving the city from Zig-Zag and One-Eye. The storyline is complemented with the amusing antics of a dim-witted thief (voice of Jonathan Winters), some charming songs and much slapstick action of likely appeal to young and old.
Directed by Richard Williams, the production is visually splendid, and has a look all its own; a far better look than Aladdin's: wide stylistic variety spanning from Ancient to Op; sophisticated sense of pattern and color; visual wit; clarity of action; and perfect timing.
A hilarious animated movie that breaks the Disney mold!.
