| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Second Breath |
SECOND BREATH (Le Second Souffle) is a movie cowritten and directed by Jean-Pierre Melville in 1966. The film is one of the masterpieces of the French director.
Sentenced to a life term sentence, Lino Ventura escapes from prison. He knows that he doesn't have any future in France anymore so he plans to secretly run away to Italy by boat. Lacking of money, he accepts to take part in an audacious robbery but is arrested by the police. Once more he manages to escape but must face now his partners who are sure he has denounced them to the police. Tired and disillusioned, Ventura will defend his honour with his gun. Meanwhile, inspector Paul Meurisse, thanks to his deductions, follows step by step Ventura's bloody path and waits for the best moment to catch him.
