| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Pink Floyd The Wall |
Based on the bestselling 1979 double album by British art-rock band Pink Floyd, this 1982 film visually and musically relates the story of a troubled and drug-addicted rock star who has progressively isolated himself from everyone physically and emotionally. Abandoned by his father during World War II, smothered by his mother thereafter, and punished in school for writing poems, he steadily builds a wall around himself. The style of the film is that of a 95-minute music video; there's virtually no dialogue, just songs and visuals, including the startling, smeary animation of British caricaturist Gerald Scarfe. The success of this bizarre rock opera may depend a lot on how much the viewer likes the music from the album to begin with.
