| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Lady From Shanghai |
THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI is a movie written and directed by Orson Welles in 1947.
Mike is hired by Mrs. Bannister, the charming wife of one of L.A. top lawyers, to work as a sailor on the couple's private yacht. During the cruise, Rita - Mrs. Bannister - Hayworth seduces Orson -Mike- Welles who'd like Hayworth to leave her husband and follow him. But Hayworth can't imagine a life without comfort. So when Grisby, Bannister's associate, proposes to Mike to take part into an insurance swindle involving Grisby's fake murder, Mike can't resist. Unfortunately Grisby is really murdered and Mike arrested for a crime he hasn't committed.
