| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Roxanne |
C.D. "Charlie" Bales (Martin) is the fire chief of a small Colorado ski resort town (played by Nelson, British Columbia). When a gorgeous blonde astronomer named Roxanne (Hannah) moves into town, Bales is attracted to her, but she falls for the hunky new firefighter Chris McConnell (Rossovich). Bales is sure he has no chance with her anyway, since he has an enormous nose -- the focus of many jokes and remarks. However, Chris is tongue-tied around girls, so he asks his boss to help him with the job of courting Roxanne; soon Bales is writing three marvelous love letters a day as well as feeding Chris the proper lines. Martin wrote a delightful script based on Edmond Rostand's classic 17th century play "Cyrano de Bergerac," and a supporting cast of Shelley Duvall, Fred Willard, Michael J. Pollard, Damon Wayans, and Matt Lattanzi help to make this a modern classic romantic comedy that has wit as well as slapstick.
