| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Caught |
CAUGHT is a movie directed by Max Ophüls in 1949. The picture is a little jewel of the Film Noir genre.
Leonora Eames's desire is to marry a wealthy man, that's why she takes lessons at Mrs. Dales's school of charm. She'll meet the millionaire Smith Ohlrig and accepts to marry him after a few weeks. Ohlrig's behaviour is rather weird and even his psychiatrist can't handle this man who is unable to accept any contradiction. It soon appears that he married Leonora only to prove that his psychiatrist was wrong. Now his wife enjoys a millionaire's life but is regularly publicly humiliated by her husband. As he doesn't agree to divorce her, she leaves him and is hired as a medical secretary by Doctor Quinada. Leonora and Quinada fall in love but she's expecting a child from Ohlrig and her husband won't accept the divorce unless she gives up the future child's custody. Desperate, Leonora returns home but will endure a terrible pregnancy as a quite insane Ohlrig savors his victory over his wife.
