| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Golden Bowl |
Based on the Henry James novel, THE GOLDEN BOWL is a movie directed by James Ivory in 2000. The picture got a nomination for the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival.
Prince Amerigo is a poor Italian prince who's got the unique opportunity to marry Kate Bekinsale, the only daughter of the first american billionaire Nick Nolte. Nolte and his daughter are Americans having a passion for the art who have decided to take up residence in England. They are very close and, even after Kate's marriage, go on seeing each other a lot. In the same time, Uma Thurman, Amerigo's former lover and Kate's best friend, can't make up her mind to give up to love the prince. Soon, she accepts Nolte's proposal and marries him. While Kate and her father are not enjoying very much the London social life, Thurman and Amerigo spend more and more time together rekindling their former relation. But, with the months passing by, Amerigo is beginning to suffer from this false situation and appreciate the naive kindness of his wife Kate. How will Thurman adapt to her lover's change of mind?
