An overweight professor discovers a formula to make a person temporarily skinny. He meets a woman and falls in love with her, but his weight is a big issue. He then takes the formula and becomes skinny. After he does his skinny self tries to take over and threatens the professor's life.

When Dr. Sherman Klump falls in love with a beautiful woman (Jada Pinkett), he decides to change himself in order for her to like him better. So Dr. Klump creates Buddy Love, a skinny man who turns out to be a maniac. Eddie Murphy plays the entire Klump family as well as Love himself. There are hilarious scenes in which Sherman morphs into Buddy and vice versa (they later become separated in the sequel).
