| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about A Perfect Murder |
This 1998 thriller, loosely based on Hitchcock's “Dial M For Murder,” shows Steven Taylor (Douglas) in his trademark wheeler-dealer role with Gwyneth Paltrow as his trophy wife, Emily. Their marriage, shaky to begin with, is further fractured when Steven learns Emily has been sleeping with David Shaw (Mortensen), a bohemian artist who is actually a career con man. Steve blackmails David into murdering Emily, but she turns the tables and kills the intruder with a meat thermometer to the neck. When the face beneath the ski mask is not David's, Steven has to deal with his suspecting wife, David who is now blackmailing him, as well as mounting financial problems. There is a tender scene when Emily surprisingly expresses sentiments in Spanish with the detective (Suchet).
