Elizabeth lives in a mansion next to the peer with her father and is out sailing a lot. When she was a young girl, she saw a boy in the water and helped rescue him. His name was Will Turner. Will had a pirates medallion with him while he was unconscious directly after being rescued from the water which Elizabeth took to keep him safe. Now Elizabeth is a young lady. Commodore Norrington proposes to her on top of a fort wall over the ocean, but because her corset is to tight, she faints and falls into the water. During this time, Captain Jack Sparrow, a pirate, has been trying to commandeer a ship, but when he sees her fall, then he dives in to save her and rescues her at the cost of being captured. He escaped and then again, was captured again. While he's in jail, pirates from the Black Pearl come and raid the town and take away Elizabeth.
Will, who likes Elizabeth, frees and joins captain Jack Sparrow, and they go to rescue Elizabeth. The pirates don't hurt Elizabeth because they think she is the only person who can lift a curse they brought upon themselves by stealing Aztec gold. When Will and Captain Sparrow go to rescue Elizabeth, they are captured. It turns out that Captain Jack is the Captain of the Black Pearl, and that Will is really the one who can lift the curse. The Pirates lock Will up, and strand Captain Jack and Elizabeth on a deserted Island with a pistol with one shot left.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is a cynical, middle-aged pirate who turns up in Port Royale with a flask of rum and a mind to comandeer a British navy ship. He takes a chance and saves a young woman, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) from drowning, only to be captured as a pirate and held in prison!
That night some pirates invade - the pirates of the legendary ship The Black Pearl. They have come because Elizabeth has a pirate medallion of theirs. They take her on board, cheat her out of the medallion and sail off with her. Her well-meaning but often rash childhood friend, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) attempts to get her fiance, Lieutenant Norrington, to save her, but he doesn't even know where to start... so Will teams up with Jack! They commadeer a ship together, gather themselves a crew in Tortuga and try to win Elizabeth back!

The evil Captain Barbossa (Jeffrey Rush) tries to lift the curse with Elizabeth's blood?

William Turner, a simple blacksmith, who loves Elizabeth seeks out to rescue her with the help of Captain Jack Sparrows, a pirate who was recently marooned by the Pearl and seeks revenge.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is at an all time low. His crew mutinied on him, dumped him on a deserted island, and now he is left with no ship, no crew, and no prospects...until he sees that his crew really is cursed. Turns out his crew found the gold without him and now were like the living dead. When Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) frees Sparrow so that they can rescue the fair Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) from the pirates, Sparrow realizes that the pirates need Turner's blood to lift the curse. But Will is not about to let Sparrow use him as a bargaining chip and starts playing the game his own way...
I was excited to see this movie from the moment that I heard about it, but I must admit that I was a little worried that it would be a weak adaptation like the Country Bears a while back. Needless to say, I was blown away by this movie and was so pleased that Disney put out such a great movie! The special effects are superb, with the pirates moving seamlessly between flesh and blood and skeletons in the streams of moonlight that they walk through. The actors are also wonderful - especially Johnny Depp who was laugh out loud hilarious in his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow. The humor is not at all slapstick, though, it is very subtle and this makes it that much better. Orlando Bloom did a very good job as the reliable blacksmith, Geoffrey Rush was the epitome of a bloodthirsty pirate and the British soldiers were a very nice casting addition. In short, this movie has it all - great cast, wonderful effects, thrilling stunts and swordfights, humor, a love story, perfect sets and costumes, a lovely score - don't miss it!

Elizabeth Swann, the govenor's daughter, found a boy floating in the water when they were crossing over from England to Port Royal in the Caribbean Islands. The boy, Will Turner, had a medallion around his neck and Elizabeth stole it because she thought he was a pirate. Eight years later, Jack Sparrow comes to Port Royal. That night the Black Pearl showed up because the medallion Elizabeth had stolen form Will "Called" to them. They kidnapped her because that thought she was the child of Bootstrap Bill Turner, when it was really Will Turner, a man who loved Elizabeth. Will got Jack Sparrow to help him find Elizabeth because Jack was a pirate and he knew where the Black Pearl would be.

A film based on a Disneyland theme park ride? It sounds like one of the all-time bad ideas for a movie. But "Pirates of the Caribbean" turns out to be a swashbuckling hoot that doesn't take itself the least bit seriously, and is therefore a great summer movie. Elizabeth Swann (Knightley, the blonde from "Bend It Like Beckham), the daughter of the governor of Jamaica, is kidnapped by a shipload of scurvy pirates who sail the tattered Black Pearl. Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp), the odd but wily pirate leader who was relieved of command of the Pearl by a mutiny, and Will Turner (Bloom), a lowly blacksmith who happens to be skilled with a sword (and in love with Elizabeth ever since she saved his life when they were children), go after the pirates. But the crew turn out to ghosts who cannot be killed! They hope the blood of Elizabeth will lift the curse. Though a whopping 143 minutes, this 2003 hit is not overlong, is filled to the mainsail with action and laughs, and has some lovely location filming (St. Vincent and the Grenadines) as well as cool special effects. Check your brain at the door and enjoy the rush.
