Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Cry of the Owl
Adapted from a Patricia Highsmith novel, THE CRY OF THE OWL (Le cri du Hibou) is a movie written and directed by Claude Chabrol in 1987. Mathilda May earned the 1987 French Academy Award in the Most Promising Actress category.

Robert is trying to recover from a severe nervous breakdown. He makes the acquaintance of Mathilda May, a young woman he had secretly observed for several weeks. Mathilda falls in love with Robert and leaves her boyfriend Patrick. Robert who didn't ask for Mathilda's love must now face an agressive Patrick who attacks him one night.
