| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Sommersby |
Richard Gere portrays a soldier coming back from the civil war to his wife played by Jodie Foster. But as they scrabble to survive in the poverty riddled South, there is doubt as to his identity, and, in a very dumb ending, Gere essentially volunteers to be hanged. Gere plays a somewhat convincing heterosexual, but Foster is not convincing as the heterosexual wife, seeming like a very cold and unemotional fish.
