| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about 8 Women |
It's Christmas time, and eight women gather together in the family mansion. Then, the man of the house, Marcel, is murdered, so the women know that one of the eight is the murderer. One of them, Suzon, is returning from college in England, and turns out to be pregnant. Her sister, Catherine, is a tomboy. Their mom is named Gaby and never really liked her husband, Marcel. Gaby's sister is a neurotic virgin named Augustine and was secretly in love with Marcel, though too neurotic to od anything on it. Gaby and Augustine's mother, Mamie, seems to be wheelchair-bound but walks out of her wheelchair early in the movie. Marcel needed some extra money, but Mamie refused to give it to him. Then there's Marcel's sister, Pierrette, who was always arguing with her brother. The remaining two women are the household servants, Chanel and the young maid Louise, who was having an affair with Marcel. Chanel and Pierrette are secretly lovers, as comes out somewhere in the movie. The only person without a motive, it seems, is Catherine, the youngest, and as the story unfolds, everyone is trying to find out what really happened when everyone has their own secrets, which come out in very funny ways.

8 WOMEN (8 Femmes) is a movie written and directed by François Ozon in 2002. The picture earned 12 nominations for the French Academy Awards.
Eight women are trapped in a mansion lost in the country as the snow prevents them from leaving it. Marcel has just been found lying in his bed with a knife in his back. Each of the women present knew the poor man. For example, one can find here his wife, his two daughters, his mother-in-law and his sister.
During the next hours, these women will leave their mask and reveal family secrets and hates that could have lead to this crime. Soon, one understands that each one of them could have the opportunity and the motive to murder Marcel.
