| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Scaramouche |
SCARAMOUCHE is a movie directed by George Sidney in 1952.
During the last years of the reign of Louis the XVIth, Philippe de Valmorin, under the pseudonym of Marcus Brutus, writes and distributes lampoons criticizing the french aristocracy. The Marquis de Maynes, alias Mel Ferrer, kills him in a sword duel under the very eyes of Valmorin's closest friend, Stewart Granger. Granger hides himself in Binet's theatrical company in order to become Scaramouche, a character who soon becomes famous.
Granger has not forgotten de Maye and learns fencing with Perigore, the best teacher in Paris. Meanwhile, his heart can't choose between the red-haired actress Lenore and Aline de Gavrillac who must pretty soon marry Noel de Maynes.
