| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Perceval |
Based on the writings of Chrétien de Troyes, PERCEVAL (Perceval le Gallois) is a movie written and directed by Eric Rohmer in 1978. This film earned two nominations for the French Academy Awards.
After having encountered a group of Knights in the woods, the young Perceval decides to go to King Arthur's castle and become himself a Knight. During the next years, the rather naive Perceval will learn, through several experiences and adventures, what being a Knight means.
A wise man will teach him how to use the specific weapons of a knight. He will also learn that the Knight has to protect the women and the weak and that to listen is often a better solution than to speak.
Entirely shot in a painted scenery, PERCEVAL is a fascinating movie if one should make the effort to accept its peculiar aesthetics.
