| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Pauline at the Beach |
PAULINE AT THE BEACH (Pauline à la Plage) is a movie written and directed by Eric Rohmer in 1983. The director won, for this movie, the Silver Bear at the 1983 Berlin Film Festival.
Pauline, a 15 years old girl, is on holiday with her cousin, the sculptural Arielle Dombasle. On the beach, they meet Pierre, with whom Arielle Dombasle had an affair before her marriage 5 years before. Now divorced and free, Arielle could resume her liaison with a still loving Pierre but she prefers to go out with Edmond, a womanizer who's cheating on her as soon as she's turning her back. Pauline and Pierre don't understand Arielle's choice but their opposition strengthens Arielle's love for Edmond.
