A cop named Bullitt is sent to protect a witness who is going to testify agains the mafia. The witness is killed, so Bullitt starts to investigate. He ends up on a wild car chase through San Francisco. After the chase he kills the two killers, however he finds out someone else was in on it and sets out to find him.
