En route to a concert engagement in Budapest, the famous Italian tenor, Ferraro (Jan Kiepura), impulsively switches trains to escape his tyrannical manageress. He ends up in a small lakeside resort in Switzerland. Anxious to cash in on the singer's popularity, the mayor arranges a gala reception, but the singer thwarts him by changing identities with a stranger he has befriended on the train. To complicate matters, the singer falls in love with the mayor's lovely daughter (Magda Schneider).
