| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Man in the Moon |
In 1950's Louisiana, 14-year-old Dani Trant (Witherspoon) falls in love for the first time when 17-year-old Court Foster (Jason London) moves in next door. Court and Dani get to know each other during visits to the nearby waterhole, and he seems to return her attentions, all under the watchful eyes of her parents (Waterston, Harper). Things change when Court meets Dani's beautiful older sister Maureen (Warfield), who will soon be leaving for college. The sisters learn about the joys and pains of first love, then the pains of first loss when tragedy strikes. Witherspoon is innocent yet assured in this, her acting debut.
