| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Candyman |
Based on a Clive Barker novel, CANDYMAN is a movie written and directed by Bernard Rose in 1992. More than ten years after its release, this film stays as one of the smartest horror movies of the 90's.
Helen Lyle is writing a thesis about urban legends. Soon, after several interviews, she remarks that the figure of a black man with a hook, Candyman, is regularly mentioned by the people she talks to. According to everybody, Candyman lives in a building situated in the most dangerous area of the city. There, she will make the acquaintance of a mysterious black man who's got the power to hypnotize her. As bloody murders seem to follow Helen's paths, the police begins to suspect her. And Candyman is deliberately implicating Helen in his violent killings.
