Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime)
After young Prince Ashitaka is wounded killing a demon boar that threatened his village, the wisewoman of the village tells him the wound will eventually kill him and tells him to find what made the boar so angry. He finds a town where an old man tells him about Irontown, where giant gods protect the forest and where the town's ruler, Lady Eboshi, wants to drive all the gods away so the town can make iron.

On his way to Irontown, he meets a girl who lives with the wolf god Moro. The girl tells him to go away, but he doesn't listen, instead finding his way through the Forest of the Great Forest Spirit, a feat no human except the adopted daughter of Moro has managed. When he returns two wounded citizens of Irontown to the town, he is celebrated as a hero. He hears that the girl is call Princess Mononoke (princess of the spirits) and that Lady Eboshi wants to kill her.

The girl, called San by the wolves, shares this emotion towards Lady Eboshi. Ashitaka tries to convince San and Lady Eboshi not to kill each other and not to get involved in the war of Forest Gods verses Irontown, to little avail.
