| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Meet John Doe |
MEET JOHN DOE is a movie directed by Frank Capra in 1941. This film was nominated for the Academy Award in the Best Original Story category.
D.B. Norton has just bought one of the local newspapers and fired most of the employees. Ann Mitchell manages to be rehired by writing an article that shake the people's conscience. The article is signed by a man called John Doe who's announcing to the world that he'll comit suicide on Christmas Eve in order to protest against the social ills.
The management of the newspaper secretly decides to pick an ordinary homeless guy from the streets and to ask him to impersonate John Doe in front of people. Soon everybody is waiting for the daily column of John Doe, still written by Ann Mitchell. John Doe clubs are founded and each of his apparitions draws huge crowds.
D.B. Norton is waiting for the right moment to make John Doe announce the creation of a third political party whose candidate will be....D.B. Norton himself. But will John accept that the important social movement he's created in the country shall be taken over by heartless politicians?
