As Landon comes to know more about Jamie, he begins to develop tender feelings for her. The pace and mood of the movie is suddenly changed when a dark mystery about Jamie is revealed. She suffers from Leukemia! but even this discovery does not change Landons feelings for her and they get married anyway. Jamie dies four years after their marriage.
