Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Therese and Isabelle (1968)
A woman (Persson) stops by the European boarding school she attended to reminiscence about her school days. As she wanders the deserted grounds and classrooms, Therese remembers. The audience sees the events in flashback and quick cuts. Young Therese's slavishly devoted mother (Laage), untrue to her word, foists her in boarding school upon her remarriage. Upon arriving, Isabelle helps her unpack and immediately becomes a confidante. Lonely and put off by advances from young men their own age, they find comfort in exploring each other. Yes, the friendship morphs into a tale of budding sexual exploration in which much of the plot concerns looking forward to the next rendezvous in the school bathrooms or dorm. Nudity. Lots of simulated sex and generic non-anatomic details given in voice over.

Based on the novel by Violette Leduc, this originally uunrated (but no one under 18 allowed!) art film from the late 1960s is probably tame by today's standards. Erotic, not hardcore.
