Review Summary and Plot Commentary about My Brilliant Career (1979)
This is a classic Australian film based on Miles Franklin's novel. Young Sybylla Melvyn yearns to be a writer in the city. We see her writing at every possible opportunity. It appears she is poised to do so, when her family's fortunes turn. Despite this and even at the lowest of the low points in her young life, she is persistently courted by the dashing Harry Beecham (Neill). The story follows her struggle to have a writing career despite circumstances.
